The new, fixed patch has the same KB number as the old, bad patch that crashed Outlook and other Office 2010 products
Around 1:30 a.m. On Thursday, Nov. 12 2015, Microsoft re-released KB 3097877 to replace the messed-up security patch that freezes Outlook 2010 and other MS Office 2010 products. The patch is part of security bulletin MS15-115, a “critical update,” designed to prevent remote code execution triggered by malicious fonts. On the 11/10/15 “Patch Tuesday” MS released a patch that broke this. You can find the details here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3104540
The good news this is an easy fix, just get to the Windows update and re-run the updates and it will automatically install the updated version of the patch.
(You can get to this quickly by pressing “Windows logo key” and the “Pause” button on your keyboard.)
Once you have this open just click the Windows Update at the bottom left of the dialog.
Then just hit check for updates and it will download the latest patch and fix it.
